Last year, WASRG had our first Virginia Happy Hour. It was so much fun that we decided to do it again!

In true WASRG fashion this evening will feature snacks, an open bar, and the camaraderie of your friends and colleagues. The American Tap Room is one of Clarendon’s newest spots and a stone’s throw away from the Clarendon Metro Station. For those DC-centric people out there, we encourage you to embrace the metro system and make your way to Virginia as well. Remember, you spend a good part of your lives visiting capital cities like Montpelier, VT, Topeka, KS, and Trenton, NJ using nothing short of trains, planes, and automobiles along the way. We refuse to believe you “just can’t make it” to Clarendon.

WASRG Luncheon Featuring Maryland Senate President Thomas V. "Mike" Miller

We are very fortunate to have honor of the nation's longest serving Senate President and the longest serving Senate President in Maryland history, Senator Mike Miller (D-Prince George's and Calvert Counties), join us for lunch on June 11.

The oldest of 10 children, Mike Miller, was born on December 3, 1942 in Clinton, Maryland in Southern Prince George's County. Educated in the Prince George's public school system, Mike received his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland College Park in 1964, and went on to study law at the University of Maryland School of Law. Graduating in 1967, he was admitted to the Maryland State and Prince George's County Bar Associations that same year and has been in private practice for 40 years with offices in both Prince George's and Calvert Counties.

Mike first ran for the Maryland House of Delegates from District 27 in 1970. After serving a term in the House, he was successfully elected to the Maryland Senate in 1974. Mike quickly established himself as a leader and in 1983 became Chair of the Judicial Proceedings Committee. As Chairman, Mike led his committee members by enacting tougher criminal penalties and greater protections for victims. As a Committee Chairman, Senator Miller recognized the importance of true leadership and in 1987 his fellow Senators elected him President of the Maryland Senate. He has now been elected to that position for the past 26 years.

WASRG 6th Annual NCSL Reception (14 Aug 2013)

Join your fellow WASRG members for the 6^th Annual NCSL Reception in Atlanta on Wednesday, August 14^th at STATS (300 Marietta Street NW). The event will take place from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. and is conveniently located between the conference center and the major conference hotels. We hope you’ll make it a point to add this event to your long list of activities during the NCSL Legislative Summit!
